More and more people all over the world are suffering from hearing loss. Hearing loss occurs to men and women, young and old. It can be permanent or temporary, partial or complete, and can occur either suddenly or gradually. It has been found that hearing loss of all sorts can be lessened or improved by consuming high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which are abundantly found in it.
Hearing and health
We have been accustomed to regular routines to promote ear health – avoiding loud noises, cleaning the ears regularly, and so on. What most of us don’t know is that food has a lot to synapse xt do with hearing health. Vitamins such as B complex, vitamin D and folic acid can help prevent the ear problem called presbycusis. And now, here is a latest breakthrough in hearing health – namely, omega-3 supplements.
How it prevents hearing problems
It is indeed rich in omega-3 fatty acids. But what is the connection between omega-3 fatty acids and hearing? Interestingly, there still isn’t any concrete proof as to the positive effect of it against hearing problems. However, it is assumed that omega-3 fatty acids, specifically DHA and EPA essential fatty acids, play a major role in healthy ear function.
Proven through Clinical studies
The fact that it helps against hearing loss is proven through various clinical studies. For instance, researchers from the University of Sydney have established that intake of at least two servings of fish a week can significantly reduce the risk for hearing loss by at least 50% in older adults aged 50 and up. This study has been recognized and published in the reputable American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
What do all these mean?
Well, this just means that fish oil can do more for you than you already know. This finding is especially important for adults aged 50 above, who have increased risk for hearing problems. It is all too common for adults to have diminished hearing as they age, but thanks to fish oil, this risk can be significantly reduced.
Around three servings per week of fatty fish should be enough to prevent hearing loss in adults. However, higher, purer, contaminant-free omega-3 fatty acid can be sourced from fish oil supplements. Fish oil supplements provide high amounts of pure omega-3 fatty acids but without the danger of mercury (and other contaminants) overdose.
